To have had the luck and privilege to experience commercial success has been insanely humbling and probably makes it harder for people to believe that I still get off the same way when a show goes well regardless of the head count. What I give and how much I let go during a performance is as unpredictable as writing a hit.
Instrumentally it all came together out of a jam. Lyrically, I wrote it at a time in my life when I felt suffocated and tied-down by my situation- I was carrying a heavy past and a heavy present and it all felt doomed. Why was this particular song chosen for Grouplove?
We recorded it for fun with Ryan Rabin [Grouplove drummer] on a trip to LA never thinking it would become the first single of Grouplove. We were just a bunch of friends playing music together.
So far, what do you think has been your biggest accomplishment to date? What artists have continued to inspire you and your music through the years? My biggest inspiration is Hannah Hooper, my soon to be wife and mama of our baby girl. Having worked to promote radio stations in the past, seeing what makes a successful radio hit has been a thrill. As a lover of all genres of music, working at All Access Music Group is a perfect fit for Leah, and she loves learning about up and coming musicians as well. Most of her friends have come to rely on her for new music.
She roots for the Wildcats every chance she gets. Leah has been able to work at a variety of music-related jobs including several internships at small independent labels, ClearChannel Radio and Journal Broadcasting Group.

She also spent time working retail at a store that specializes in vinyl, which was a lot of fun for her. Has this been your biggest tour to-date?

Going around the world and all, touring so much, do you all even have regular home in Los Angeles? I suppose that this tour is mostly focused on Big Mess. How hard it is to pick which songs from the new album to do live — or rather, which, if any, not to do?
Songs that we love, that we know our fans love. But we still play the classic three or four songs off each album that we kinda have to play. Christian is legitimately an artist, and will want to play what he feels like playing, what would be best in the city. The trendier one, and the more laid back in the cuts version. How much leeway do you even have?

We could never play them, if we wanted, but give the people what the want, you know what I mean? We put it in the set sometimes. You both had lived in New York previously. Is it a little like coming home, when you play New York?
I would love to genuinely be an artist, and be able to afford New York, but I still — even with our band doing this well — can feel how expensive New York is. I would never live there again. I experienced it, it was beautiful. I would love to move back to New York.
